Catcleugh Farmhouse

What to Expect

A renovated former hunting lodge situated in Northumberland National Park with spectacular views over Catcleugh Reservoir. While remote, the farmhouse is well connected for guests to explore Kielder, The Borders and other attractions in North East as well as across the border in Scotland. Surrounded by nature, the house is also situated in one of Europe’s largest International Dark Sky Parks (Gold-Tier) - achieving the most ‘pristine dark skies’ in England (CPRE Night Blight Report 2016), making it one of the best places in the country to go stargazing and viewing the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).

❋ Warm and Welcoming Home

The place genuinely has a friendly feel no doubt stemming form its original use as a hunting lodge for the Duke of Northumberland in hosting him and his guests after a day’s hunting before settling in for the evening to enjoy drinks, dinner and conversation.

❋ Catcleugh Reservoir

The house, grounds and hill side fields offer amazing views of the reservoir with it’s lapping waves or mirror-like reflections it’s a breath taking sight and something you’ll never tire - day or night.

❋ Surrounding Grounds

The house sits amongst various gardens, woodlands and streams that are designed to be outdoor spaces & features to enjoy. Some parts are still in development as they become established, but this is to be a centre point of the experience at Catcleugh. You’ll immediately notice the fresh clean air, as evidenced by the lichen that grip the trees.

❋ Wildlife and Nature

You’ll know instantly that you’re in a national park with all sorts of wildlife everywhere, from dragon flies, butterflies, bats and barn owls; to frogs, newts and beetles to red squirrels, rabbits and feral goats. The sound of the birds at dusk and dawn are quite incredible and in fact the site is subject to regular wildlife surveys to record the extensive list of species found throughout the year.
